If you ever tagged me to do one of those tag game thingies and I never did it:

1) Thank you, seriously. Those are fun and being included shows that my followers care enough to want to learn more about me.

2) Very sorry about that, it’s extremely likely that I said to myself “Cool! But I’m busy at the moment, I’ll have to do this later today or tomorrow” before proceeding to just straight-up forget, now it’s too far back in my notifications and/or your blog to find again.

I’ve been in a lot of fandoms, but I gotta say that I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fandom crumble as fast as Sherlock fandom did. Sorta impressive in a way lol. Like insane hype for years and then it took just three weeks for it to completely disintegrate. Does Sherlock even have a fandom anymore? It’s crazy how a few years back you couldn’t escape sherlock content on tumblr and now you almost can’t even find it bc so many old creators have moved on after s4 and there haven’t been many new ones.

Hey Nonny,

I honestly haven’t really been IN a lot of fandoms. I’ve been a fan of a lot things, but never as deep in it as I have been with Sherlock. And I’ve personally never seen TPTB fuck a show up so royally before. Like, not only did johnlock not happen but S4 was fucking awful. And with no resolution S3 was shit too.

We lost a lot of great people post S3. I think those were the smart ones with good hindsight.

BUT as far as the fandom goes, you just need to know where to look. The fandom itself has kind of split off into groups.

Those who actually liked S4, which I’m not the least bit interested.

There’s people who still believe Johnlock is going to happen and think that S4 was fake in one way or another. Even those groups are split among each other. The E/M/P folks and then there’s the John’s alibi/blog folks.

Then there’s those of us who are enjoying the fandom still, the fan art and fan fiction. There are fans of ACD canon, Granada Holmes and many other versions. The Sherlock Holmes fandom isn’t going anywhere, even if it isn’t as huge on tumblr as it once was.

I do have to agree, I don’t see as much Sherlock content on my dash as I used to and everyday I see less and less. If Mofftiss goal was to completely obliterate both their show and the fandom, they’ve done a bang up job!

This is a pretty good summary of where the fandom is at the moment.  It makes me irate that this happened as it was so unnecessary.  How can you either fuck up this badly or purposefully throw your show under the bus?  I’ll never understand.  Thank the gods for fandom creators though, that’s all I have to say!

Yup. Agreed.  Season 4 / TPTB  did a pretty thorough job of decimating and fracturing  the BBC Sherlock fandom. Fortunately  the Sherlock Holmes fandom is still alive and well.  Though I have lost a good bit of passion for BBC Sherlock,  it I will always have a special spot in my heart. Johnlock is still a passion mainly because of the fantastic authors and artist that  keep it so interesting!  I am still here because of the diversity you can find in the Sherlock Holmes fandoms.   Granada Holmes was my first love and is still my favorite production.  There are so many other facets of the ACD Holmes fandom that are wonderful, that in the end  BBC Sherlock was just a part of it all. Yes it was a very big shiny part for a while and was so very exciting and promising but still after all is said and done it was just one fraction of the whole.  It will always sadden me that the potential of it was so wasted. Life goes on until the next interpretation of Holmes gets it right.  I know someone will get it right.

Benedict and Martin created a very special ‘Sherlock’ and ‘John’ and these are what I see for my inner eye, when I read a lot of fan-fiction about ‘Sherlock Holmes and John Watson’. About the BBC show I am divided in several fractions myself. Was it on purpose from the writers? A ‘Killing Sherlock Holmes’ just like ACD did? Will there be more? Is EMP the explanation? Will the show return? Could Moffatt and Gatiss really make themselves believe that this was ‘insane wish fulfilment’? And honestly believe that they had made something good?! No – I didn’t like season 4 – even if there were good moments in it (The Hug)….and I read a lot of meta, that tries so hard to make sense of the mess – and a lot of fan-fiction. Including the ones I have written myself. So at least you can give it to Moffatt and Gatiss that their trash has given so much inspiration for amazing fan-fiction. Would I watch a season 5? Maybe – to see if they could f*** it even more up?

My fascination with ‘Sherlock Holmes’ goes way back, to my childhood, where I read all the ‘Sherlock Holmes’- books that my mother had. And no Mofftiss and no Gatiss can ruin that :-). So I am still here 🙂

Series 4 may have been Mofftiss’ “insane wish fulfillment” but it sure as hell wasn’t mine !

I’m in the “I’ve forgotten the bad parts of s4 and the rest is fin-OH LOOK THERE’S 100000 OTHER ADAPTATIONS.” Camp.
