Moftiss got to “fix” the Original SH, and now I get to do the same to their wacky creation.

1). Eurus is out.  Like, completely.  I have absolutely NO INTEREST in her story.  The concept that she shaped Sherlock into what he is today is vile and unsupportable.  It’s so pathetic to me that Moftiss couldn’t come up with something even remotely believable for Sherlock’s backstory.

2) Rosie is out.  I can’t even imagine what the purpose of saddling John with a baby could be, but it’s so Not Relevant To My Interests I can’t even.  Ditto Sherlock co-parenting with John.  Totally not what I’m here for.

3) John living separately from Sherlock is out.  I know everyone’s trying to ignore it, but Moffat came right out and said that they’re not living together.  Not acceptable.

4) John beating Sherlock up never happened.  I don’t care how idealistic you are, you don’t go from being beaten almost to death by someone to sharing a beautiful relationship with them, and in only a matter of months, yet.  Besides, my Watson would rather die than hurt Sherlock.  So, no to the beating.

5) Mary is out.  See #1. NO INTEREST.  Her character is unbelievable and I am offended at the way Moftiss made her The Keeper of Sherlock.  Mary Be Gone. :-))).

6) While we’re at it, let’s get rid of Sherlock’s parents.  They’re cute, but Not Wanted On Voyage, unless they’re more interesting and problematic than the linedancing couple we got. Away with you.

Okay, so now we’re back to the beginning of Season Three, and I’ve gotten rid of most of the really annoying stuff.  Upon reflection, Mary might be kept around just long enough for John to realize when Sherlock comes back that he wants things back the way they were before he left just as much as Sherlock does, and he can’t do that if he’s married to Mary, so she has to go.  it would be balm to my  ravaged spirit to have John actually choose Sherlock over Mary.

What else?

7) Mycroft can stay.  I like Mycroft, and I like his protectiveness of Sherlock.  But he can only stay if that protectiveness becomes a little more consistent.  Would The Real Mycroft has allowed a shell-shocked Sherlock to go to the restaurant and screw up his relationship with John with that ill-advised reunion?  No.  He would have locked Sherlock in the basement until he was thinking clearly.  Mycroft can stay only if he’s prepared to act in a responsible manner.

So I have to retcon back to The Fall, which will be be resolved either by having John be so thrilled to get Sherlock back that he can’t be bothered being miffed about the methods Sherlock used to save his life and everything returns to normal at Baker Street, OR by having John be so thrilled to get Sherlock back  that he can’t be bothered to go forward with Mary and everything returns to normal at Baker Street.

There. Fixed it.

I am so bitter about the descent into hell that is s4 because it takes so much of TAB & s3 down with it. It compounds rather than corrects s3’s faults.

The way the fall happened was extremely cruel to John, whereas ACD was much more decorous and kind to his characters, and there was no need for that other than cheap emotional manipulation (one of the most upsetting and dull trademarks of this show, which also brought about the gratuitous beating and all the other instances of violence/cruelty purely for shock value), so I’d change that too. That’s the only fault I can find with TRF, which will always be my favourite episode.
