All the negativity in the Sherlock fandom has really gotten to me, and I think a lot of people can agree on this. For me it feels really difficult to find appropriative Sherlock related blogs that still love the show, so now I’m looking for kind Sherlock blogs to follow. If you’re one of them, please like or reblog this post so more people than I can surround theirself with a better Sherlock fandom atmosphere. Thank you!
(I’m not saying you can’t criticise the show but I just don’t want the hatred that’s circled around since s4 came out, thank you for understanding)
This is a 100% positive Sherlock blog. 🙂
I’m mostly positive 😀 I like discussing/disecting/arguing/debating about the show, but not in a negative way – I still love it, even with all its flaws. And while I don’t start wank, I do answer it, but that’s easily avoided by blocking the w@ank and fandom w@ank tags I place on all those posts.
Hope you find what you’re looking for!
I still adore the show! I’m more than happy to talk about anything and everything about it. I get into fussy posts from time to time, but it’s usually only about shippy junk, and I always tag it with ‘wank’. I’m a Sherlolly shipper, so you’ll have to block that if you don’t dig it, but other than that I just, LOVE this show. I will always love it. ❤
Hi! I’ve got two sideblogs that are totally safe spaces: @rememberthemaidofthemill where I reblog fic and recs, and @sherlocksaestheticblog (what it says on the tin, Sherlock has a tumblr aesthetic blog, because of course he does)
I also try to be positive on my main, @artfulkindoforder, but sometimes saltiness with s4 can creep in
I read summaries of season 4 to my friends who have not seen it or heard what it’s about. (But were fans of the show before, but not as intense as on tumblr). These are their reactions:
Umbrella sword gun w/context: What the fuck
The plot of TST: they just killed mary so John could be angry at Sherlock for no reason? (I showed them a clip and they both agreed Mary jumped on purpose in a terribly cliche fashion. But it wasn’t his fault at all).
Eurus: what the heck? So moriarty just-she was really behind it the whole time? IT RUINS EVERYTHING (neither of them could get a full thought about eurus out. Both agreed she made no sense whatsoever. I know fam, I know).
The Final Problem: Eurus send J+S+M on this wild hunt through Sherrinford just so she could play with Sherlock again?? But she killed his best friend and almost killed John by putting him in a well for no reason? And mycroft is just. Somewhere else and not in a life or death situation. OKAY.
My first take on that Gatiss interview post is, hey everyone, before you get upset, try to listen for yourself. The post is not the interview, perspective is everything, and although I am really grateful to @lament4sherlock for drawing our attention to the interview (thanks again, sweetheart!), second hand reportage of a conversation risks invoking the telephone game.
I had a half dozen people tell me that Sherlock is Garbage, Here’s Why video would convince me that the whole show was, well, garbage, but I watched it and it turned out that the guy had a single point of complaint about how the show wasn’t one off stories just like acd wrote, and it wasn’t about the cases, which he found Wrong, but, well, we knew that already, and we liked it. (Somehow, he stretched this single point of complaint out over an hour and a half.) I thought Sherlock is Garbage was funny, but also a huge shrug, and it ultimately didn’t change my opinion about the show.
I haven’t listened to the Gatiss interview yet, but I prefer to form my own opinion, and so should you.
My initial response is, I can spot several blatant untruths in the summarised points–can you? I also in no way would ever expect a creator to talk about their work in such an apparently denigrating way? Seems…well, fucky is such an overused word, isn’t it?
Also, do I spy a creator confirmation that their Sherlock is gay? That’s new.
Anyway, I’m not making predictions and I’m not falling back on They Lie because who knows what they do? Just saying, don’t let it wreck your day.
@may-shepard I’ve listened to it, and here are a couple of things:
– Some of the things on that list were not in the interview at all, as far as I can tell. Was Mary ever mentioned? If so, I missed it.
– I didn’t hear any admission that Holmes was gay in TPLOSH, only that it’s his and Moffat’s favourite and that his Mycroft came from there, which is stuff we know already.
– He made some really blatant contradictions, like (1) the thing one adaptation of The Hounds of Baskerville got so horribly wrong was Holmes shooting up in a bathroom (?) during a case due to addiction, and in TLD they literally have Sherlock shooting up in a bathroom during a case due to addiction; and (2) A Case of Identity being unadaptable as a case, even though they did adapt it as a case in TEH and arguably it’s an allegory for the entire Mary/John/Sherlock dynamic that they’re presenting.
– He seriously suggests that if the series were 60-minute episodes, they would have had to do “bottle episodes” in which Mrs Hudson and Lestrade solve crimes together. This is ridiculous.
– A second reference to Doctor Who: Empress of Mars being a Bank Holiday adaptation, which it most certainly is not, although The Lying Detective is (I know this is self-promotion, but please read this meta if you haven’t already).
Anyway, as far as I’m concerned, this interview is just business as usual.
i may have misheard, but literally in the interview i think mark just said he doesn’t go back and reread doyle, and then after saying something else, he says if you’re stuck, yeah, i go back and read doyle like ………. hi
Yup, that’s exactly what he did. I listened twice to make sure I heard it correctly.
are you really going to look me dead in the eye and tell me you really deeply believe that John from BBC Sherlock was based on Bumbling Bruce
….all I see in the episode is them running away from Rathbone Place lol
Of course John is no Bumbling Bruce. But I think that with this, Mofftiss might’ve wanted to mean they’re making their Sherlock and John look about as married as Rathbone and Bruce’s seemed at their time.
Annoyed Martin said during TAB that using Bruce was a “brave choice” because I dislike Bruce version of Watson so much. Then he acted out the bumbling part, and I was ???
Martin does not bumble. The only bumbling is the bees awaiting in
Sussex, not Martin Freeman. And then they said it was filmed as a
beginning or an end, decided to put it at the end, but almost put “The
Beginning” across the screen, but it would result in too many
questions?? Dudes, we have nothing but questions, because our show is
struggling. @sherlockshadow
I totally never would have noticed that, @educatedinyellow, thank you for doing this. AND, may I take this moment to thank granadabrettishholmes and tremendousdetectivetheorist for being such indefatigable GIFmakers, half the Granada GIFs on Tumblr are by you two alone.
Who wore it better? I don’t know, points to Hardwicke for keeping it real (he looks like he’s wearing something he actually owns, whereas Brett looks like he’s wearing something that just came out of wardrobe) but points to Brett for accessorizing and general fineness.
They both wear it well.
I agree that they both wear it well! Lord Goring looks sassy and Watson looks distinguished. I seem to remember David Burke in a similar jacket but I can’t remember which episode. Also thanks @plaidadder for the compliment; I’m glad you enjoy the gifs I’ve made and I’m flattered to see one pop up in your analyses/reviews from time to time! As an aside, though, I couldn’t take credit for half or even a quarter of the Granada gifs on tumblr–as @jeremyholmes has been consistently making beautiful gifs from every episode. 🙂
Thanks @tremendousdetectivetheorist. I have a feeling @granada-brett-crumbs – who deserves a mention as well as prime Granada content generator – might have a gif of David Burke in his matching red jacket?
“prime Granada content generator” thanks :3
and here he is:
I am scandalized by the lack of Livanovs
Not to mention
tbh Gena wears it better, the green of his skin makes a nice contrast with the color of the jacket
The second image was, according to Sherlockian.net, for a “cigarette card” (like the cards you used to get in packs of bubble gum, I suppose, but cigarettes) with Gillette as Holmes on it, smoking his way through a case. The first is a poster for Gillette’s play Sherlock Holmes. Check out the width of the cuffs and lapels on both of these bad boys.
And of course, here’s the Robert Downey, Jr. version:
Is it red? I think it probably once was…before Holmes spilled acid on it, slept in a ditch in it, got dragged behind the back of a speeding train for a mile and a half in it, and then rolled a pile of tobacco leaves.
OK, step back everyone, @sarahthecoat found Benedict Cumberbatch’s:
That’s not Sherlock, that’s Benedict Cumberbatch on the red carpet at a Hobbit premiere. But DAMN.
yep, desolation of smaug, to be specific. I practiced my tumblr search skills, “benedict cumberbatch smaug red carpet”. Feeling just a bit .leased with myself. 🙂
Listen this is a beautiful post thanks.

I can’t believe I have to add yet another one:
Let us not forget when Tom Baker played Sherlock Holmes:
There have been major rumblings in the media about SoundCloud here.
They seem able to only offer assurances of another three months’ operations.
Since SoundCloud is the sole depository of my work and creates the bridge to upload to AO3 and tumblr, I’m more than a little worried that all my pods may soon become inaccessible. While I consider my options (I really, really don’t want to desert a sinking ship but my annual renewal comes up in August/September), may I respectfully request that you download any works of mine (and, of course, anyone else’s) you may want to revisit in the future. If anyone knows where I might lay my pods to rest in the future, please let me know – I was very happy with SoundCloud because it makes files so easy to access (I wanted to listen to another podfic, recently but it was in a zip file, which was easy to download but unless I was willing to pay $47 for the means to unzip it, I couldn’t unpack it to listen to it!)
This represents a potential agony of re-uploading – I currently have over 530 tracks on there, most of which will need to be re-homed if SoundCloud can’t get it together. Then all those will have to be linked to AO3. I’m sick to my stomach.
Tags below. Please, please reblog this to reach as many SoundCloud uploaders and listeners as possible. Thank you.
People can’t stand the idea of Holmes and Watson being in love because it’s not in the books but they sure damn love assassin wife, crazy sister in shutter island, Redbeard is not a dog god dammit, jumping off a bulding without injuries, solving crime Bond style, Watson beating the fuck out of Holmes bc it totally happened in the books right ?
