2213-tv:

Next Saturday (3/11/17), we will be releasing the first episode of our (or rather Charlotte Holmes’s) podcast, The Science of Deduction at 1 pm PST on our new SoundCloud channel.

This podcast will be released bi-weekly, alternating with case updates from the personal Instagram page of Charlotte Holmes herself.

The Science of Deduction is meant to supplement the 2213 universe, and as of now, the episodes will feature stories, interviews, and other events that occur before the meeting of our Holmes and Watson. In each episode, Charlotte will present the listener with a case to solve, answer audience questions, and potentially interview other characters in the universe. She may also ask you, the audience, for assistance on her cases. You’ll be able to communicate with her via our ask box here @2213-tv . If you’re directing an ask at Charlotte, begin your message with “CH”.

A big thank you to @mindonaledge @maacdennis and @marathecactupus for their help on this side production! And of course a thank you to all of you followers for keeping us going.

Guys, I need to know I am not alone on this site.

I’m still not over s.4 but Sherlock has given me a lot of good times. I still love it and the fic and art coming out of the fandom is always SO GOOD.

here!

Still love it all, maybe even more so after S4, with all their flaws and plotholes and fucked up and messed up things. Yes, even S4. 😉 which imho was really good in retrospect, even if it was also really messed up.
And also the art and fics and just everything! ❤

Always.

I am so happy to have you all.

The problem of the insidious toaster

The Enigma of the Nightime Doctor – hmmm – good Doctor Who title?

The Legend of the Loquacious Kitten – sounds intriguing!

The Enigma of the Part-time Puzzle. Well, that’s deliciously opaque. I’ll take it!

Also, @sherlockthinksaboutjohn, I think the title you got is probably about @destinationtoast. Could be tricky.

The murder of the psychic politician…

The Tragedy of the Manical Cupcake! 😂😂😂 no shut sherlock. So true!

The tragedy of the persnickety unicorn

There are a couple more links to The Lost Special in The Final Problem

OK, I have been searching for links within S4 to a Lost Special. Some we have already identified [’stop looking after 3′ in TLD, the Rouge billboard in TLD, ‘mind the gap’ and ‘Choo Choo’ in TFP] But I know these Holmesian nerds and they bury shit deep, and so I have been on a quest for more on The Lost Special. Here is another link I found and it’s very canon/Holmesian so right up Mark and Steven’s street.

The Lost Special is a short story by Doyle, published during the hiatus, so Holmes has been dead as far as the public are concerned for five years. But…in this story we get an anonymous detective writing in to help solve the mystery. It’s clearly Holmes: an "amateur reasoner" writes “It is one of the elementary principles of practical reasoning that when the impossible has been eliminated the residuum, HOWEVER IMPROBABLE, must contain the truth” So a voice from the undead? Yep it started with Doyle himself. Tradition in this Holmesian world for the dead to come back and speak. Anyway, Moffat mentioned this story at the BFI panel after TFP. Unsolicited. He was being asked about a fourth episode then couldn’t contain showing off and dropping that link.

The train in The Lost Special goes missing between Kenyon Junction:

And Barton Moss:

Which were on the Liverpool/Manchester to Euston Station London line.

The train goes missing in THE WEST OF ENGLAND.

In The Valley of Fear Holmes tells us about Moriarty: "He is unmarried. His younger brother is a station master in the west of England.”

Then, lo and behold, out of the blue, fucking Eurus in TFP tells us this  information: “Did you know his brother was a station master? I think he was always jealous.” Why? It serves no purpose in TFP. It is just thrown in at random, and we take it because it’s hidden in other random shit the mad sister is saying.

So we have a train reference to add to our others and this one ties into The Lost Special by location of Moriarty’s brother.

We also have this:

When was The Lost Special published? 1898. 5 years after the publication of The Final Problem in 1893.

Few other thoughts: In the Lost Special there is one main line [Liverpool to London] but FOUR side lines, one of which has had tracks removed to hide it’s existence. That feels very pertinent to me. The different lines that a story can take? A hidden story? Three lines/episodes and a fourth with tracks removed to keep it hidden?

The deeper you descend into the well of the Holmesian world the more clues there are to something fucky occurring right infront of our eyes but wrapped up in the riddle and enigma that is the world of Sherlock Holmes. As Jim says:

“Come on now! Aaaaaall aboard! Choo-choo! Choo-choo!”

Yay juicy meta, thanks! 😀 And I wanna add something else.

Did you know his brother was a station master? I think he was always jealous.” Why? It serves no purpose in TFP.

Not only that, BUT IT LITERALLY PUTS THE EXISTENCE OF JIM’S BROTHER ON THE TABLE. Something a lot of us have been speculating about. And this is after we heard John ‘he’s always right’ Watson ominously talk about TWINS twice (in TAB and then again in TST) but it was never confirmed. And in TFP John was constantly questioning how can Moriarty be alive. Which is logical if you read TFP as John’s dream, because he’s still contemplating the possibility that Jim may have a brother, and choosing to give him the profession of ‘station master’ becomes perfectly understandable as him just putting colour to it– just as with everything else. Also, trains. John loves the metaphors.

My point is, mentioning important details like this in passing just so they can go unnoticed to a casual is exactly the point, just so they can later say “you were told that Jim has a brother!”. It’s Mofftiss MO.

Also remember Sherlock insisting “I knew Moriarty made plans!” in TST before he sees the DVD was Mary’s instead. I mean, the whole Moriarty story was left hanging there, unresolved just like a lot of other things. I wrote about Moriarty’s brother coming back to finish the unfinished business HERE.

Gimme Andrew Scott playing Jim’s twin!

bakerstreetqueerbaitingtime:

The problem with queerbaiting is not just that it’s wrong to bait LGBT people into watching your show so you make more money. It’s much, much worse than that.

When you put gay subtext into a movie but especially a tv show that goes on for years there will be LGBT people who insist that character A is gay or that characters B and C are in love. These LGBT people, full of hope and enthusiasm, will tell their family and friends and co-workers about these characters and their relationships and what they expect to happen. Most of us did that. We told others what we thought was going to happen to John and Sherlock, how they were in love, how they were in the closet, how they would be free after 130 years. And how many of our friends and and family and co-workers reacted skeptically or even negatively? Most of them, in some cases. Certainly too many.

By baiting and teasing a possible gay relationship again and again and then not following through, the writers not only didn’t represent LGBT people, they actively told all the people who didn’t believe us THAT THEY WERE RIGHT. They were right to think that John and Sherlock are just friends. They were right to think that representation isn’t important. They were right to think that friendship is purer than a romantic relationship. They were right to think that gay relationships shouldn’t be on tv anyway.

Queerbaiting makes thousands of homophobes feel validated.

I heard from people who’s own homophobic, adult family members openly mocked them for being stupid after this, so…  Anything that subjects queer people (especially queer kids who maybe don’t have the power to leave less than ideal or even dangerous situations) to this kind of abuse is not okay with me.

If you’re not going to go there with two characters, then don’t load your series with common queer coding and romantic tropes, don’t direct your actors, and choose takes that further perpetuates the idea that the show we are watching is a romance.  You can’t do that, especially on a show that has long hiatuses, and a very committed fan base, and not expect your audience to pick up on that, and form certain assumptions and expectations.

Also, anyone out there who is laughing at hurting queer people right now, who is victim blaming and saying it is their fault for seeing what was there and expecting and hoping for representation, while simultaneously defending these writers as blameless needs to check themselves.

Queerbaiting validates homophobes has got to be our rallying cry for representation. while LGBT ppl deserve to see ourselves reflected in mainstream fictional media, it’s equally as important for non-LGBT ppl to see!

esp in places where folks might not actually know any LGBT ppl- media is the only chance they have to understand us. it’s why representation matters. we deserve more than only villains being queer-coded. we deserve more than to only be the butt of jokes. we deserve to be shown as the humans we are.

@opnorbury

@racheltalalay I wish the creators would listen to this and give some answers or explain themselves as well as you do about your role in T6T…
We don’t deserve being blocked by Mark in Twitter just for asking questions, being blocked by @SherlockedTheEvent in Twitter just for criticising, we didn’t deserve the BBC denial as reply to complaints which was totally uncalled for.
They’re smart enough to understand and expect our reaction, but they won’t ever acknowledge it because they know they failed and it’s wrong.

Well, been here for 46 years so what’s another decade?

I don’t believe anything else is coming, but I am here at least until April/Mofftiss’ festival thing. We can get some answers or maybe no real answers, but enough so that some of us can scrape together a bit of closure.
