i believe i saw something about oysters being related to The Dying Detective?
yes it’s a quote from acd’s The Dying Detectve!- holmes to watson:
“"You will tell him exactly how you have left me,” said he. "You will
convey the very impression which is in your own mind–a dying man–a
dying and delirious man. Indeed, I cannot think why the whole bed of
the ocean is not one solid mass of oysters, so prolific the creatures
seem. Ah, I am wandering! Strange how the brain controls the brain!
What was I saying, Watson?“”
Listen, I am not tin-hatting at all, but whoever is running these twitter accounts is doing a bang up job. They know their canon, and they are good writers, having a good time. So kudos. If it’s a couple of you out there on tumblr, just know you’re great!
This is not a game anymore. They are interacting with several real life accounts/entities, they are repeatedly breaking the fourth wall.
I find it very curious that Pizza Hut, Bart’s Hospital and Pret are playing along so effortlessly. I feel this is all part of a bigger scheme/game which is the arg. They want us to believe contactsh and contactjhw are very real.
This week Improbable Press will start publishing Spark, a bi-monthly newsletter of Sherlockian, writerly, and affirmative content which hopes to be a conductor of light, sparking bright ideas. Subscribe to Spark mayhaps?
This is just the best newsletter. I too am a bit shouty and sometimes I forget that it is ok to be a bit shouty and sometimes it is even ok to be a lot shouty.
actually to be penis honest and everything, BBC Sherlock as a canon adaptation is pretty horrible. like it must have been their intention to stay SOMEWHAT true to the canon characters and they just didn’t. as much as i love BBC Sherlock with all my heart, he’s not Holmes, he’s completely different. Holmes is a quirky unconventional nerd who wants to be seen as this cold, analytical rationalist by the greater public, but he’s not rude to people by default, he’s less arrogant and he would never call himself a sociopath. he’d never, for example, let watson think they’re both about to die just to get reconsiliation out of it, he’d never manipulate the people he loves like that, not if it doesn’t serve a greater purpose (like in the dying detective). i’m not saying sherlock is a bad person, on the contrary, he just doesn’t understand how his actions affect people because he doesn’t take himself seriously enough and has trouble adhering to social standards. holmes understands all of this a lot better. and he’s also not deeply unhappy and troubled all the time you know? he has a much healthier attitude when it comes to… just life in general. he has his black moods but he’s not suicidal and he has a sense of self worth, he’s just a very intelligent nerd who needs his puzzles; Sherlock is on the verge of fucking dying all the time because he barely wants to live. John is also not Watson, and while i appreciate how John started out (not the bumbling sidekick) he does so many things Watson would NEVER do. like forgive someone who shot sherlock (yikes) or like… just getting annoyed at him for being the way he is? i don’t want to even get into S4 john who is apparently a cheating alcoholic with violent tendencies who blames sherlock for things that are not his fault instead of sticking with him during bad times (?????) just… the lack of open mutual adoration. john seems ashamed to be so enchanted by sherlock at times, like, that’s just so so so wrong. just. the two of them treating each other like a convenience all the time. this is just so fundamentally incorrect because holmes and watson fall over themselves to tell each other how much they appreciate each other’s presence and that they’re each other’s closest friend, no matter what happens. so. if they weren’t lying when they said it was all about the two of them, they did a shitty job tbh,
