the fact that they could literally stare us in the eye and say ‘we hate you and want you to die’ and there would still be people like ‘it’s a skip code! they love us really!’ is so sad tbh like when did it get this bad

Penny’s The Final Problem Write-Up
Warning for 4,600-word-long-ness.
Delayed by a week because I was on my holidays, so some of this covers
familiar ground, but not all of it. If you really don’t want your squee harshed
this post is not for you, but I do have some positive things to say.Complain for three days then settle down to making the most of it: it is
the way of fandom. Except we may just need three weeks this time. Or long
enough for S4 to settle into place as just part of the Sherlock whole rather
than the dominant feature of the landscapeQuotations are courtesy of ariane devere’s wonderful
transcripts. So yeah, if anyone ever wondered why I ❤ pennypaperbrain… Read this and be illuminated. Regardless of whether or not you agree with the points she makes, it is a delightful read.
“‘Good luck,’ says Sherlock, and lurches bizarrely out of character by adding ‘boys’, lest we forget that maleness is a vital qualification for being human as opposed to the void incarnate.”
I have been waiting for this and it’s here! Amazing analysis, amazing writing.
There is something deliciously satisfying when all of the smart people you follow are in agreement with something. Because, yeah. I did catch that “boys” silliness and the oddness of it stuck with me even as I’m happily forgetting a lot of details that were in that ep.
Thanks for this:
What Sherlock’s showing here – and this so often is how the show gets to into our hearts, or at least into mine – is a traditionally female quality, in this case primarily a maternal one. How many women absorb monstrous behaviour from one family member while protecting others, in order to keep the family together or in order to try to help that person because no one else can? And how often does it involve the kind of catastrophic destruction of self-esteem that Sherlock seems to have undergone to get him to the point where he doesn’t lash out when he realises that Euros killed his best friend? It’s not healthy but it’s relatable, and relatable primarily to women;
It helped me get a better understanding of why certain things about this season have upset me so deeply.
Read. This.
I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!! I’m going to see the boys in the band in the near future and there is a chance Mark Gatiss will do a stage door thing. Without being disrespectful towards him as a person, do you think I should ask him anything Sherlock related and if so, what? I would love to be sneaky about it, hahahaha.
Hi Nonny!
PERSONALLY, I don’t think you should, if only because I worry that he may say something that will hurt you and given that he’s blocking people all over the place, I don’t want you to feel shunted. BUT, MAYBE if you were subtle about it, you could get away with it?
What do you guys think?
As an aside, I really hope you enjoy the show! It looks amazing! 😀
Now this is my opinion but I really don’t think you should either. Stage doors are for being excited about the thing you just saw, not for bringing up something else that the actor was in/apart of. Even more so in this case as Mark doesn’t seem to want to hear any criticism. If you told him “oh I loved s4!” (But you really didn’t) he probably would be like “cool (oh great it’s one of the fans)”??
How Our Current Understanding of Sherlock and TJLC Have Evolved to Now, A Month After TFP Aired.
Including their intentions and plans with the show, Mark’s love of TPLoSH, the 2009 BBC LGBT report, How They Lie Constantly, The Five-Act Shakespearean Structure, M-Theory with Moriarty and Mycroft, Extra-Narrative and Meta-narrative elements, Moriarty’s Post-TFP message, The Lost Special, The Show Being Reichenbach’d, The Geek Interpreter, The State of the ARG and the BBC Pure Drama Ad, #Sherlock Live, and how in the end we know that something is coming, and soon.

Aww thank you for putting a lot of work and love into this post! ❤
I’m just laughing so hard at Moffat rn, he shouts at fans for not minding the books and meanwhile he goes and makes John a FATHER and Mary a deadly assassin with a sweet redemption arc but no, we’re the disrespectful ones.
oh and not to mention his secret psychopath sister the dog he never had and the moriarty-returns-from-death-scene every series
eurus sherrinford redbeard potter, you were named after the three most unsatisfying plotlines i ever knew
i have one of those “i survived the sherlock hiatus 2014-2017″ stickers but now that i think about it it should probably be more like
“i survived sherlock series 4,
i survived car seat boy, and ajay, and that fake death and go to hell.
i survived churros holmes and that hospital.
i survived john beating sherlock.
i survived shermit. hell, i ship shermit.
i survived the spoilers from that bfi screening.
i survived clue theory. i believed in clue theory.
i think i believed in every single theory.
i survived watching the fucky problem in russian.
i survived watching the fucky problem on a big cinema screen, in english.
i survived the clown and those paintings and the umbrella sword gun.
i survived that singing drone and that ridiculous explosion scene with fire that doesn’t burn anything.
i survived churros holmes and her violin and i survived that horrible molly scene.
i survived azkaban.
i survived the shock proof elephant glass.
i survived dog-bowl-victor.
i survived john’s missing feet.
i survived ‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘platonic’‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘ parentlock.
i survived that horrible posthumous video subscription, i survived ‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘mary’‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘ telling me that who i really am doesn’t matter.
i survived moffat bullying a fan and gahtiss saying he doesn’t give a shit about criticism because we’re all just stupid.
i survived thelostspecial.com.
i hope i’ll survive the arg.
i am optimistic and pessimistic at the same time, seeing what i’ve survived before.
pull the trigger, moftiss, pull the rug.
give us that special.
and then please, PLEASE, finally put us back on hiatus.”
Like i think that would be a big sticker but compared to what’s going on right now tarmac hell was actually tarmac heaven.
From now on I want to narrate every Sherlock interview as if I’m Lemony Snicket
“If we pull this off, it’ll be television history!” Amanda said, gleefully. Amanda should not have said this, and she certainly should not have said it gleefully. What Amanda should’ve said instead is “This season includes a very talented actress who will surely impress you all.” However poor Amanda did not say this. And several months later she certainly regretted her mistake.
~
Sue’s eyes widened in shock. They did not widen in shock because Amanda had spoiled the plot of the show, or because Amanda had just hinted at what may happen in the upcoming season, but rather because Amanda had just told a massive, whopping, great big lie. And Sue was shocked.
~
“Love conquers all,” Benedict smiled sappily. Benedict did not, of course, mean “Sherlock’s romantic love of another person and their love of him conquers all their problems this season,” but rather, “In my opinion Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have been in love for over a century and I believe it is only right that they should be allowed to love each other and that I should kiss Martin.”
~
Steven hid his head in his hands. Steven did this because he thought Benedict was being cheesy and romantic, however it seemed to the audience like he did this because Ben had just give away a major point of the plot. Steven should be more careful about how his body language portrays his feelings.
~
Mark looked like he wanted to kill Benedict. This was not unusual, however. Mark always looked like he wanted to kill Benedict. And Steven. And everyone, in fact. Mark liked to think about murder.
~
“This is the best season yet,” Steven said. He was lying. I know he was lying because in reality it was filled with plot holes and glowing pictures and boys who eat out of dog bowls. But I’m not a rude person, so I left Steven to his ignorance.
~
“Who you really are, it doesn’t matter,” Mark typed. Mark should not have typed this. In fact, I wanted to hit Mark with a big stick and tell him ‘who you are REALLY matters’ but Mark would not have listened. Mark thinks he is smarter than me. He is clearly not. But who he is still matters.
~
“I’ll die if Johnlock doesn’t happen,” a TJLCer sobbed as she typed on her laptop. “RIP,” Mark replied. He did not do this to be funny. He did this because he can be a massive twat sometimes. This was one of those times.
~
"I don’t know, I don’t know, I’m just in it!” Martin squeaked. He was not trying to hide a secret, as many believed. Martin was just genuinely baffled by the new season. And by baffled I mean ‘had no idea what the plot was, what the point was, what his character was suppose to be doing and why he didn’t get to kiss Benedict.’
This is my favorite s4 post ever
If I had the ability to create video, and could muster up enough gravitas to pass for Fem!Lemony Snicket, I would completely go back and do this for every interview ever.

In Sherlock Irene Adler is just as obsessed with outwitting Holmes as he is with outwitting her, and I feel like that’s a fundamental misreading of the source material, because in Doyle’s version Holmes happens to get in Irene’s way, so she does the functional equivalent of trapping him under a cup, sliding a newspaper under him and dumping him out in the backyard.
There were only four people who ever bested Holmes, and she was the one who frustrated him the most, because she didn’t give a flying fuck about him. Not only was she a woman (orignal Holmes was pretty sexist), but he was considered irrelevant. That Infuriated him. Sure, Moriarty was a match for Holmes, but Moriarty devoted his life to outwitting him. Irene Adler just did it offhandedly, and that’s what makes her so amazing
#i have feelings about this#Holmes#literally no interpretation has ever made Adler into the badass she is#she never was in love with him#not even a little#she just#didn’t care#it was beautiful#he thinks he’s hot shit and she outwits him without breaking a sweat#and then just leaves#as if she hadn’t just destroyed him#irene adler#the real hero
Was he impressed by her? Goodness yes. Did he find their interaction memorable? Oh my, yes, in the same way he found any intellectual battle memorable, and the fact that it wasn’t simply with an equal, but a possible superior–that made it impossible for him to forget. Did he love her? Lord, no. That’s just heteronormativity talking.
Omg this post is back again on my dash. My favourite post. ❤
don’t go on the deep web
be objective here
- what many of us thought was very convincing evidence that a fourth episode would air on january 22nd (or at least 29th) led nowhere
- steve thompson is definitely real (megan @liveanothersol has also met him)
- thelostspecial.com turned out to be fake and run by an anti
- the deep web is extremely dangerous – it contains everything from hit men for hire to child pornography to horrific human and animal abuse, often disguised as links to innocent pages, and is used by a lot of people with excellent hacking and doxxing skills and very troubling morals
in fact, even if you disregard points 1 – 3, there is absolutely no way that the bbc or any of its affiliates would ever encourage young people, especially children under 18, to go to such a dangerous part of the internet – that would be asking for a lawsuit which the bbc would never risk or be able to afford (they’re tax funded, after all)
i am telling you right now that there is no chance whatsoever that any coded messages encouraging you to go to the deep web are in any way related to the bbc – i promise you that this is the work of an anti who doesn’t like this community and may actually mean you actual harm
if there is an arg (which honestly i find hard to believe at this stage, but this point stands regardless), i promise you this isn’t part of it
too late.. …. …. i’m sinking here
i’m telling you without any shadow of a doubt that anyone leading you to the deep web has nothing to do with the bbc and means you harm, this isn’t an opinion, there is absolutely no way the bbc would ever do anything like this and the evidence corroborates this being the work of an anti, please be sensible for your own sake
Boosting this.
