Today marks eight years since A Study in Pink aired. It’s been a wild ride, a bitter and heartbroken and tearful one.
But I can’t… I can’t not feel everything I felt when I first watched this episode.
This show changed me so much. This show made me, partially, a person I am.
This episode will always be the best in my heart (even though The Reichenbach Fall is objectively better).
This episode will always be special, because it’s the beginning for many people, but most importantly, for two men of note. And whatever happened next, here, for them, it’s hope, it’s a start, it’s a promise of a hapy future. I will never forget it.
You said it so beautifully. I think it’s the same for most of us.
I love Sherlock because it gives the impression that every single character had been lonely at one time in their lives, and through this adorable, intelligent man-baby, they’ve all met each other. They don’t have to be alone now.
I made this lil personality quiz that determines whether you are a Holmes or Watson archetype!! (also go check out this Stamford matchmaking blog that matches Holmes/Watson archetypes)
I should att though, that it is entirely based on my own ideas about these characters (mainly the bbc ones)! And you might be (most likely are) a mix of these two and not fit into either of them fully. I don’t. But this is just for fun!
I got Holmes. No surprise there. 😆
A watson 😀 not surprised either
A Watson too. Quite a surprise since my answers seemed quite mixed ^^
@linkswriting I myself got Watson too despite mixed answers! But you could be what I call the Rosies, if you don’t fully identify with either :,D
3) The anime miniseries Blossom Detective Holmes, from artist & director Steve Ahn of Voltron and Korra fame, featuring Skylar Holmes and her partner Jamie (support the kickstarter to make the entire miniseries HERE!)
Some suggestions for a new year’s resolution for my fellow sherlockians:
– Read a well-recommended fic in a genre you have steered clear of before. If you’ve only read gen before, brace yourself for a shippy fic and vice versa; pick up a casefic if you’ve only read relationship-driven stuff before; try that AU everybody’s been raving about, or see if a lovingly romantic Mystrade might be able to thaw your heart, after all….
– try your hand at creating a fanwork the likes of which you thought wasn’t your game: do a moodboard, photoshop something, publish your first fic or watercolour your heart out
– when you see a ship war, do not engage
– give a fledgling writer who you think shows promise despite their fumbling start a bit of encouragement and love
– when you see a lesser-known fic that isn’t getting the love it deserves, leave a comment even if it’s just “I really liked this; thank you for writing it.”
– reblog at least fifteen new fanarts
– look after yourself and don’t let the hiatus get you down (fanworks are an excellent antidote)
– finally read the original ACD stories
– watch the Guy Ritchie movies
– watch Russian Sherlock
– tell your favourite fanartist/fic author they’re awesome
– write a helpful meta for writers about your real-life hobby/field of expertise
– decide to be a supportive, tolerant member of the awesomest fandom on earth instead of being caught up in petty drama and opinion differences
bless jeremy brett for what he did with the canon and how much he cared about it; he payed an enormous tribute to both conan doyle and his character. i feel pretty confident when i say that there was no greater nor more faithful holmes portrayal before his time and it’s unlikely there will ever be a better one in the future. it will be very hard to beat him.
anyways this is a personal scientific research.. if you’re a fan of bbc sherloque reblog or comment or tag with 1 or more than 1 moment from the show that always always sends shivers down your spine everytime you rewatch!!
The scene which consistently fucks me up is when John throws Sherlock on the bed and tucks him in and Sherlock slurs, “Why would I need you?” in ASIB. Like honestly I can’t even look at gifs of that scene because it’s too fucking tender
The look of pure horror on John’s face when he realizes the inevitable consequence of Sherlock shooting Magnusson.
The look on Sherlocks face before he shoots Magnusson. The way he looks at John and then decides, again, to sacrifice himself.
When Sherlock realises John is trouble and he drops his chips. Then stops a motorbike like a badass and drives 1,000 mph. He literally throws himself in a pyramid of fire for him like ‘fkcu it’ because he will not let John die.
The scene at the wedding reception when Janine asks Sherlock if he has any openings and his eyes flick over to John…
Battersea. John’s face has never been so vulnerable. It’s impossible to look at him directly.
The Pool scene. When John comes out and Sherlock thinks he’s Moriarty for a milisecond. And when John gives Sherlock the tiniest of nods for him to shoot the vest
The fact that Martin has a photo of ACD on his fridge and a John Watson funko pop on display in his living room makes me feel… I wanted to say proud but that is probably not the word I am looking for? I am very emotional rn
Also, can we please appreciate the fact that Martin placed that pop funko right next to all the special Beatles stuff, I mean, do you… do you even realise how much Martin loves John Watson
I think what you feel (or at least what I feel) is some sort of relief and vindication… It proves to me that these actors had really invested in what we also invested so much. It’s even more meaningful right now because s4 had made us doubt so many things , including how much they cared for the show they were creating.
Martin is the best John Watson and this character is a huge part of his identity ♡ – I am glad he feels this way as well
Yes to this! It’s a shame his character was treated so poorly in S4
