The thing I love about John is that like…he’s so much more dangerous than Sherlock but everyone else was trying to warn him away like “that guy gets off on crime and you seem like a nice bloke, watch yourself.” They’re all scared for him like “one day we’ll be standing around a body and sherlock will be the one who put it there” and that very night they’re all standing around the cabbie’s body and John put it there.
Applying the phone = heart metaphor from ASiB to this scene was a mistake
Now instead of sneaky nipple teasing all I can think about is John reaching inside Sherlock and taking hold of his heart while Sherlock tells him to “be careful” because it’s a fragile little thing and he can’t handle it getting broken:(
ooooh D:
who gave you the right
Oh god
… proof that Sherlock’s heart was taken in Series One. I think it’s interesting that we never actually see him giving back this phone in particular. Can this be paralleled with Irene’s phone? Is there a write up i can read? THESE ARE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS. Sherlock’s vulnerability is a weakness of mine.
Too lazy to write a full-blown meta, but this delicious lingering shot happened after Sherlock realized that love is destructive and it’s better to keep his growing feelings towards John locked up instead
“Can I have my heart back the phone, John, please?”
Oh! I like that, as terribly sad as it is! OH. OH MY GOSH. I just had a thought. Sherlock throws away his phone on the rooftop in TRF, and we don’t know if the one Sherlock has in S3 is the same one (we just assume, but we never saw it given back to him… as an aside, I am STILL ANNOYED that we don’t know what came of that phone! Seems like a huge plot point to leave out!!). So, he had to throw away his heart to complete the mission… I think the next time we see the phone passed to Sherlock, going on this “heart is the phone’ metaphor, it will be John giving his own heart phone to Sherlock.
THIS MEANS THAT MORIARTY SENT HIS HEART TO SHERLOCK TO LURE HIM IN IN TGG
AND THAT JOHN WANTED HIM TO TAKE HIS HEART BACK FROM MARY IN TSOT
“BEFORE SHE COMES BACK” “FOR ME”
NOT TO MENTION THE SET UP OF THIS SCENE LOOKS LIKE JOHN IS LITERALLY REACHING INTO SHERLOCK’S CHEST YOU CAN’T EVEN SEE HIS ELBOW JESUS
AND SHERLOCK ALL BLINKY-LIKE WHEN HE DOESN’T UNDERSTAND (that john wants to love him) LIKE WHEN HE WAS ASKED TO BE BEST MAN
“DON’T WORRY I’LL GET YOU OUT OF THIS (marriage)”
AND THAT THE VERY FIRST THING JOHN DID UPON MEETING SHERLOCK FOR THE FIRST TIME WAS LITERALLY AND WILLINGLY GAVE UP HIS HEART TO HIM.
THIS IS LESS THAN 10 MINUTES INTO THE EPISODE, NOT 15 SECONDS AFTER HE WALKS INTO THE ROOM.
If we’re still running with this metaphor, technically john have sherlock his heart in the very beginning. Literally, his first lines to sherlock were “here, use (take) mine (my heart)”
I’ve put these two together because you both hit the nail on the head! OMG, this post keeps getting better. I don’t want to hijack this post, so I’m gonna leave it at this 🙂 I’ll start a new post if there’s anything else added 🙂
I…I did a mistake of looking into the quotes. And I hate you so much….
✎
I glanced sideways at the beautiful boy, who was looking at his tray now, picking a bagel to pieces with long, pale fingers.
-Bella Swan.
✎
Sherlock Holmes took his bottle from the corner of the mantelpiece and his hypodermic syringe from its neat morocco case. With his long, white, nervous fingers he adjusted the delicate needle, and rolled back his left shirt-cuff. -John Watson.
✎
His eyes were gloriously intense as he uttered that last sentence, his voice smouldering. I couldn’t remember how to breathe.
-Bella Swan.
✎
In height he was rather over six feet, and so excessively lean that he seemed to be considerably taller. His eyes were sharp and piercing, save during those intervals of torpor to which I have alluded; and his thin, hawk-like nose gave his whole expression an air of alertness and decision. His chin, too, had the prominence and squarenesswhich mark the man of determination. His hands were invariably blotted with ink and stained with chemicals, yet he was possessed of extraordinary delicacy of touch, as I frequently had occasion to observe when I watched him manipulating his fragile philosophical instruments.
-John Watson. (I always black out when I read this)
✎
I turned and he was leaning toward me, his pale, glorious face just inches from mine. My heart stopped beating.
-Bella Swan.
✎
His face flushed and darkened. His brows were drawn into two hard black lines, while his eyes shone out from beneath them with a steely glitter. His face was bent downward, his shoulders bowed, his lips compressed, and the veins stood out like whipcord in his long, sinewy neck. His nostrils seemed to dilate with a purely animal lust for the chase, and his mind was so absolutely concentrated upon the matter before him that a question or remark fell unheeded upon his ears, or, at the most, only provoked a quick, impatient snarl in reply.
-John Watson.
✎
In the darkness he looked much more normal. Still pale, still dreamlike in his beauty, but no longer the fantastic sparkling creature of our sunlit afternoon.
-Bella Swan.
✎
An instant later he pulled me back into the blackest corner of the room, and i felt his warning hand upon my lips. The fingers which clutched me were shivering.
-John Watson.
There is more. I need to breathe.
In which John Watson is anything but a heterosexual male
do people forget that john is a medical doctor lmao like him and sherlock probably geek out about science things together sometimes when it’s not destroying their flat AFFERENT NEURONS IN THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM your genius consulting detective hired a consulting medical expert for the price of love and friendship and eventual sex STAY MAD
When Sherlock pulls out his John File in TSoT, there are many interesting papers. However, I’ve only managed to take a readable screencap of only one of them. There’s been a surprise, though, Here is John’s signature, I’m sure some of you wondered what it might look like.
GUYS. OKAY.
John’s signature is not all we get here. We also see that he is signing to consent to organ donation. But also: he is refusing to sign consent for a blood donor program, and we see that he has not donated blood in the past 3 years. Americans might know where I’m going with this already: in the US, men who have sex with men (MSM) are banned from donating blood. What about in the UK though? Per the NHS, Men cannot donate blood if they have had sex with another man in the past 12 months.
Isn’t that interesting.
I hate to be a downer but If you’ve ever been given a blood transfusion, you cannot give blood in the UK. John was shot and likely received a transfusion at some point during the process hence he cannot donate blood
it’s funny how for most of us, the only takeaway from that trailer is john’s beard.
John looked hot, the rest is just nonsense. I don’t think it’s a coincidence they added a little John to this trailer though after all the complaining about how he was treated in the last one.
setlock anecdote: At one point Benedict kicked the door out too hard and it went flying down the stairs. Everyone just stood there and looked after it for a second.
also: they did the “Well, I’m not now” quite often and seem to have chosen the one take that brought out the most laughter in the onlookers as it was rather over the top in comparison to the other takes.
I just love this whole scene for the fact that Sherlock somehow acquires a bunch of professional photography equipment and shows up at this poor dude’s house playing the bumbling photog to John’s journo, and it’s all for no purpose whatsoever other than humoring John. Since Sherlock already knows at this point that it was Raoul with the Botox, and he has known for at least a few hours. (Hours in which a blind hostage is helplessly waiting for Sherlock to save her.)
But John thinks it’s the cat, so Sherlock’s more than happy to play along because John is too adorable when he thinks he has figured something out.
if that’s the exit from regression then maybe this is the entrance
#backwards = regression. Bonus points for Sherlock making a **choice** (forwards or backwards)
“The crisis occurs when the hero’s final dilemma is crystallized, the moment they are faced with the most important question of the story – just what kind of person are they? Finding themselves in a seemingly inescapable hole, the protagonist is presented with a choice.” (That’s John Yorke, my bolding)
Moftiss had to go all literal with it, didn’t they?? “Sherlock….you erm….need to choose which “””direction””” you’re going to ““fall””. No no no, forwards or backwards is absolutely not a metaphor, don’t be silly LOL”
“Their choice is to deny change and return to their former selves [BACKWARDS] or confront their innermost fears, overcome them and be rewarded [FORWARDS].” (That;s John Yorke except for the bits in square brackets, that’s me)
really puts a pin on this here emotional decision:
(I would do anything to keep you safe, including leave you)
and the swan dive from tab:
(there’s always two of us)
these are two moments in which sherlock moves forward but doesn’t resolve fully, imo because he needs john in order to do that. and if sherlock left regression station in 1895 and john left regression central in rathbone place, when will the two collide?
