Stage from The Secret of Sherlock Holmes (1988 play) designed by Poppy Mitchell

Ooooh, I’d love to have a dollhouse-size version of this!

@may-shepard

Ahhhhhhh this play!

Adding, because I’m on my computer now and @a-different-equation asked–here is the link to some information about the stage play, The Secret of Sherlock Holmes. That page links to good quality (i.e., cleaned up) audio of both acts, which some amazing soul worked on and posted on soundcloud. They are available for streaming for free. Starring Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke, and written by Jeremy Paul, one of the Granada writers.

From the TV Tropes page:

This two-man play is neither an adventure nor a whodunnit, but rather a tribute to the remarkable friendship of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. It is one hour long and divided into two Acts: Act I covers the friendship from their meeting in A Study in Scarlet to Holmes’s faked death in “The Final Problem”, while Act II deals with the friendship strained by Holmes’s deception, as well as the titular secret.

@devoursjohnlock  brought this little gem to my attention and we’ve been yelling about it for the past couple of days. I’ve listened to the first act and WOWZERS, if you’re still into thinking about BBC Sherlock at all, it is definitely of interest. The first act has a very TAB vibe, and is a plausible point of origin for the structure of the beginning of TAB. From what I understand of Act 2, it’s a major TAB and TFP intertext. A brief Google will tell you what you need to know about points of origin and the stage run, which is fascinating and a bit melancholy in terms of Brett’s health, but definitely worth checking out on its own merits, regardless of whether you’re into bbc Sherlock at all, or any more, or whatever.

Thank you @may-shepard! In case someone else is interested. It’s a wildE ride 😉

I listen to it… and I cried the last 5 minutes non-stop. I blame you @may-shepard. You said that “The Secret of Sherlock Holmes” is a wild ride, and – stupid, stupid me – expected something along the lines of “Potted Sherlock”. This play is “The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes”, just 10 times gayer.

Moriarty is his homosexuality. Fight me on that, I am ready (and how much is Watson ready… OMG!). That’s the secret; the true story, the deception, the unreliable narrator (and the voices! How one cannot decide if it’s Holmes or Watson!!!). And the f*cking ACD quote with holding hands and flying through London ♡♡♡

And the “adoring”… and then THE PAUSE… and then the “fixed point in a changing age”.

I am getting all teary eye (AGAIN) while typing it.

“The Secret Life of Sherlock Holmes”

This time all credit to @may-shepard for bringing the link to soundcloud, set photogs and some infos to my/your/our dash.
