Mark Gatiss in an interview to the Indian newspaper, The Hindustan Times, dated 11 August, 2018.

He had something to say about the possibility of the next season of Sherlock.

“Give people a chance to miss it”? Mark, I adore you, and I stand by my analysis that it’s the long hiatuses that made it possible for me to write at all, so you know, thanks, but… miss it is all we do. We wait and we miss it.

Sherlocked report #9. Had a lovely time at the cocktail party. Our group got to speak to Sue Vertue and I asked in a sly way about S5 by asking whether it was up to the BBC to commission another series and she said no, the beeb would love to have more series made as, (my words not hers) it’s quite a money spinner for them. It really is down to Mark and Steven getting time to write it first of all. She said that hopefully she’d like to get them together early next year to discuss things like what the plot would be etc. Then they’d have to write a draft plot line and see if primarily Ben and Martin would be up for doing it with that plot. Then she’d have to send Mark and Steven away on holiday together to write as it worked so well for s4. Then they’d have to sort out the logistics of Ben n Martins schedules. Ben has been working pretty much non stop for a year and Martins not far behind in the constant workloads. So in short she herself is hopeful that a S5 will happen but even if she pushed them to write super speed they have Dracula to get through its first season first and then they’d have to work out when B & M could film. She said that they hope that Dracula will film next year for a possible 2019 release (they’ve not started writing it properly at all, just a draft plot.) So Sherlocked wouldn’t be able to start to film at the earliest until a few months after Dracula has wrapped. So I’m figuring that would mean a very late 2019 or mid 2020 release at its best possible. I’m so sorry I can’t relay any better news than that, but at least we know now that the BBC and Hartswood are both keen to do it. Let’s face it, the Sherlock fandom is used to long hiatuses! !

i hate you radio times

It’s a Mary spinoff.

“We will recreate our glory days back when everyone loved us.” So, a Dallas style ‘it was all a dream’ retcon to erase S4 confirmed or…?

When they say it’s “in London” it wouldn’t appear to be filming, which mostly happens in Wales with some exceptions for exteriors…

I hope it’s that the master tapes of S4 fell in the Thames and can’t even be saved by bedsharing to conserve body heat.

That is the most struggling article I’ve ever seen, which kind of befits its paltry content. Here is the extent of Moffat’s enthusiasm for the notion (all quotes from the linked article; emphasis added):

“I sort of assume we will. I sort of assume we’ll come back.”

You want to keep it fresh and stuff like that,“ he said.

he would be ”fine“ if there was no more Sherlock.

I mean “stuff”? And “assume”? Pardon me for engaging with subtext, but that reads an awful lot like “no” and “I’m not particularly interested” and “I’ve got mine so who cares?”

Me @ Moffat

*heavy sigh*

Shove it, Moffat!

By “fine”, does he mean “so long as Dracula is a hit”?

I can’t help feeling that if it’s not, they’ll come running back to Sherlock like it’s a fallback girlfriend. On the other hand, I feel like if Dracula is a hit, Sherlock will be gone for good.

Which – I’m not gonna lie – makes me hope that Dracula lands poorly. And that stinks, because I’d actually watch a vampire show by Mofftiss, happily, but not if Sherlock must be sacrificed in order to make it happen.

Please. No more. From the likes of you.

I hope they never touch Sherlock again.

This is the face of someone who knows he’s going into the basement after today’s interview on The One Show… (x)

“Yeah, we’re not gonna do [Sherlock] ehm… (*) for another couple of years, I think.”

(*) Fuck. I said “we”.

Well, someone needs to keep Steve Thompson company. Also … is basement maintenance the line item that keeps hogging the show budget?

Moffat told the audience at the the BFI and Radio Times Television Festival in central London: “Neither Benedict, Mark or Martin are against doing more Sherlocks.
“We have a great time making them, it’s a very, very nice bunch of people and we enjoy our reunions very much.”
He said everyone involved in the show is “aware, very aware” how special it is to be a part of.
“And that means two things, we’d never want to do it if we didn’t think we could do it as well as we used to,” he said.
“It also means, we’ll come back to it when we feel we’ve got the right idea.”
He added: “It could be off the earth quite a long while now.
“But I would be surprised, as I’ve said before, if we never made any more Sherlocks.”
Asked if he would consider recasting Cumberbatch and Freeman, who star as duo Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson, he replied: “Absolutely not.”
“You can admire great cinematography, a great score, great writing, great direction, great production,” he said.
“You can admire all those things, but you only fall in love with people.
“And the people you fall in love with are Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. “You cannot replace them. They are the magic, they are the show.”
Moffat, who is stepping down from his role as writer and executive producer of Doctor Who, said he had “lived through my highlight”.
“I mean I am never ever going to top being the guy who was in charge of Doctor Who and Sherlock at the same time,” he said.
“That’s not possible. I’m not sure I would even want to top that. That’s an amazing thing.”

Boy, he just dangles that carrot, don’t he? Bet he feels a wane in popularity, but they obviously don’t know how to write themselves out of the corner they blocked themselves into.

Lol at #bag of wind, @tendergingergirl

They could have replaced Martin with a cardboard cut out this season for all his character mattered. I’m sure he’s just *itching* to come back. #fuckumoffat

Well, John was awfully good at kicking Sherlock…
