This is an audio clip of Rupert Graves from Sherlocked Oct 2017 – the Question was 2 part, about Sherlock being a good/great man & looking after Mycroft. Because there has been much confusion (here) on what Rupert said/meant by “‘He’ can
look after Mycroft until ‘I’ come along” & which way round is Sherlock/Greg in the he & I… So I have uploaded it here for you to listen to, I wasn’t going to upload this audio – I only recorded it with my dictaphone so that I can make transcripts/quotes as the sound quality is terrible, the microphone is not that good and the hall makes the sound muffled & compere is talking a lot & leading Rupert a bit.
Anyways… enjoy!

Transcript as best as I can of this is (here) –

Sherlocked 2017 memories #16: Here’s some things I
remembered from the con, that I was there for, but didn’t tell you in my
reports: in my platinum meet n greet with Claire Pritchard she had 3 wigs with
her, the long Eurus wig (that cost 6 thousand pounds because of it’s length!)
and two Sherlock wigs. One was from TAB & she said that the shot in the aeroplane
where we first see the back of Benedict’s head, she is really proud of, because
the wig looks so good! She actually had a mini heart attack when the producers
said that Ben had said he wanted short hair because they just couldn’t do the
modern scenes with short hair & she had to ask for special dispensation to
have the wig made because it was so expensive for just a few scenes!

The other wig was what she called a threequarters wig.
Benedict turned up from filming Dr Strange with long hair in the front but
quite short at the back, so the wig has metal at the front which clips onto
Ben’s head about an inch back from his hairline so that it’s his fringe &
front hair showing, and then the rest of his hair showing is all wig. They used
this on all of the first episode of S4 & by the second episode his was long
enough in the back, so it’s all his own hair from then onwards.

She also told us that Sherlock & Eurus’ wigs are the
exact same colour & that Mark has his hair dyed as close to Sherlock’s hair
colour as they can get it.

Sherlocked UK 2017  #4 on chairs and guns the 1st

loveismyrevolution:

I had a nice little private chat with Arwel….. (my favorite moments at the con!!!)

I asked him about the end of TFP:

ME: I wondered about John’s chair at the end of TFP. I understood that his usual chair was burned and must be replaced. But why does he seem to look like the one from TAB???”

ARWEL: Probably because it’s the same??? *evil grin*

ME: Ooookaaayyyy….. but …. the chair in TAB was a product of Sherlock’s mind, isn’t it??? How could he probably appear in Sherlock’s real life???? *big question-y eyes*

ARWEL: Yeeaahhh…that’s the great question isn’t it???

ME: Indeed!! It is!!!

ARWEL: Oh… I guess Sherlock just remembered him in TAB….probably he saw it in a charity shop or something and after 221b burned down he just went there and bought it for John….. don’t you think?? *wink*

ME: Welllllll….dunno….

*he laughing*

(please be aware, that I recount all this from my memory and therefore bring it into my own words. I have no records, so this is not word for word what the people in question actually said!! I try to word the main essence of the sometimes rather ridicilous long monologues *eyeroll* :-)))

Sherlocked 2017 memories #5: Here’s some things I
remembered from the con, that I was there for, but didn’t tell you in my
reports: Arwel Wyn Jones said that the black gunk that Benedict had to sink into in ‘The
Lying Detective’ had special stuff in it so it wouldn’t stain Benedict or the
clothes and that it could only be done in 1 take! he said that one of the
gunk’s main ingredients was what they use to thicken Mcdonalds milkshakes (!!)
and that if you put bare skin (like a hand) into it & then pull it out the
gunk falls off and your hand came out mostly clean… however he then looked at
Sue nervously & said that the suit was another mater & it was
completely ruined, so they had to choose a suit that they wouldn’t use again
for that scene. He said that Benedict was a marvel and kept his eyes open much
longer than Arwel would’ve been able to and that he held his breath for it all
without looking like he was doing it, which is quite tough in the circumstances
& Arwel was most impressed.

Sherlocked UK 2017  #6 on chairs and guns the 3rd

….here comes Arwel again….

During the production workshop we talked about the probs and how they could last all these years…. and there Arwel started to talk about John’s chair on his own (…or maybe he saw me little annoying fangirl asking silly questions among the people and thought better to go on with it :’-)))

So we talked about how important probs can be and how they have to be careful with them….

Arwel started on his own about…”for example John’s chair”… he said, he had made a huge mistake inventing John’s chair, because it was made of a very rare fabric, of which he didn’t have any reserves left to repair it whatever would happen to it… so when 221b burned up, the chair was destroyed and had to be replaced. So they had this chair from TAB, which he bought to look a bit like modern John’s and Arwel thought… “well it’s recognizable for the viewer and wouldn’t it be fun for it to re-appear in the modern world???”… well this Arwel thought….  I told very proud of how he had enough fabric of this chair to fix it if it would be damaged and so on…..

Then there was the question: “And what about Sherlock’s chair? Why didn’t it burn?”

Arwel’s answer was that they decided that it was too iconic and that they never could replace it!! They had put so much thought in it before the production for Sherlock even started for ASiP, that they couldn’t think of any other chair for Sherlock to fit!!!! So Sherlock’s chair may stay….

Make of it what you like….for me the question remained, why didn’t they or fake the fire or build a replica if the chair was this valuable or bought a completely different one for after-TFP…. hadn’t have the chance to ask all this though…

(please be aware, that I recount all this from my memory and therefore bring it into my own words. I have no records, so this is not word for word what the people in question actually said!! I try to word the main essence of the sometimes rather ridiculous long monologues *eyeroll* :-)))

To me, the funny thing about this answer is Arwel implying that the chair should have survived the fire. It’s not actually natural for him to have wanted to match the upholstery. The audience expected the fire to… you know… burn stuff.

Like it’s fiction, and the real artifact didn’t have to be destroyed, so this makes no practical sense to me. Only story sense is they are trying to imply something….???

I think it comes down to which props they were attached to to most. And which props they are the most proud of. John’s chair could be replaced with a different chair, similar fabric and shape and still have the same iconic look as before. So they decided that it could be burnt for the series.

Sherlock’s chair is rather unique. Irl the metal frame would have melted and been unusable. But it’s not out of the question that Sherlock would have a replica made up after the fire. Idk? Crew decided to gloss over reality and what would happen to the chair for the looks of it it seems. And the fact that they must have put in a lot of time picking this prop.

I don’t think there’s anything deeper here. Just arwel and his crew who love old chairs

cumbercougars:

According to Sue Vertue and Steven Moffat – both of whom I got to talk to directly – SM at Drinks Reception on Friday, SV at VIP Meet & Greet on Sunday: There will be a Series 5, just a matter of when.

Sue said she is letting things lay a little bit, then she will start making contact with the necessary parties to see what schedules look like.

Same with Steven, he still has stories to tell and is by no means done with the Sherlockverse.

So even if we end up with an extended hiatus, at this point there is no reason to believe that Sherlock is finished.

However if you are done as a fan, because the series has failed to live to your expectations, then by all means move on. No time like the present to let go of old baggage and start anew. Take all that pent up energy and fertile imagination to new pastures. You’ll feel a lot better.

Agreed 1000%. You can always come back years from now when/if s5 happens.

Alright guys, I asked Mark and Steven about Garridebs!

Mark, very sincerely and personably (make of that what you will), agreed with me about the moment’s emotional importance, and expressed that he had really hoped to include the scene. He said that they (I can’t remember his wording exactly) either tried it or he ran through some possible scenarios and it wouldn’t have fit anywhere (this depends on the different opinions of “was Johnlock intended to be fulfilled or not”). He mentioned the writing phenomenon of “kill your babies” when saying how much he wanted to do the scene. He even called it “throttle the nursery” because it was such a big blow to him.

Steven said that there have been plenty of scenes where Sherlock and John’s care for each other has been shown (his exact emphatic words were “yes yes they would just say wow this is my favorite person!”) and so the Garridebs scene would not be a revelation of that care, as it was in the novels in Victorian times. He said the moment itself is “a retelling of The Red Headed League, but not as good”. I could tell that this is a question he’s been asked before or has thought on a lot, because he delivered the answer very straightforward and with an air of, he’s tired of explaining this and finds it very obvious.

So, interpret all this however you want, I mean shit I still have my strong opinions in this. But I’m just very glad to have been able to ask them both, and in a more private and informal setting, and actually get answers.

Random stuff while I remember it.

Sue said that season five won’t get planned or written until Ben and Martin commit, and made an offhand comment like “when they’re less busy.” It sounded distant. Steven similarly said that he had no idea at all where the next season would go, and hadn’t thought about it yet. He’s busy with Dr. who now and might take a year off when that’s done.

Something about Mary…..first off, Amanda was supposed to be here but cancelled just a few days ago. Bummer. During my pic signing with Steven I asked him if he felt Mary redeemed herself at the end, or was she still morally dubious. This started a fairly long Mary defense, that she shot Sherlock nicely, that if Sherlock was ok with it why wouldn’t we be, that she had more to overcome in her past thus her moving toward to good had more meaning. He was QUITE QUITE serious, and all my Mary is evil hopes died a sad death. She DID ACTUALLY jump in front of that shot, Steven takes that absolutely for granted, so our pondering of bullet speeds etc. were all in vain. He’s still surprised some people don’t like Mary, and is rather defensive of her.

Had an hour with him, only about 10 of us, and holey moley what a treat. He is intelligent and well spoken, but very patient with allowing others to talk. He reiterated that the ENTIRE pool scene was not meant to be shot, only to be used as audition material, was written very quickly by Steven, but they liked it so much they shot it and fit it in.

He’s doing Hamlet onstage currently and expects it will be filmed by the National Theater and shown. When asked what part he’d like to play, he said a romantic comedy, as he hasn’t done one, and “ the longer I live the more I become convinced that everything is about love.” He was also quite philosophical about emotions, that you have to experience your dark side to experience your light, and that “all of the world is like that, two sides of a coin, not separate.”
