we were ready to belive the ep was fake when it was leaked but tbh i don’t think it’s any less fake because it aired
i think this is something that’s might be tripping people up, the idea that they would waste time and money for something that’s completely fake
while i personally don’t find that hard to believe because well, it didn’t cost that much (clearly) and it was a labor of love — they probably had a great time, especially during the ridiculous bits (read: the entire thing alksjdgslsf)
however, maybe ‘fake’ is the wrong word to use, because i fully expect it’s integrate-able to the canon as mp, emp, or even the recurring nightmare and, in such a case, it’s fake in the same way tab is – a one off that diverges from the regular format and in which every line is a meta reference to the show and/or the greater real world narrative that’s playing out right now
but apparently now they’re just something Arwel likes. as if the use of a long standing metaphor didn’t mean anything. as if Sherlock and John staring at it in a room and unable to talk about it because of official state secrets (via John’s blog) doesn’t mean anything. as if they commissioned a designer to use it in s4 and it didn’t mean anything. as if they had an elephant breaking when the plane landed in TAB and sherlock’s mind palace was shattering into reality didn’t mean anything. apparently elephants in rooms are just that. sure jan.
I seriously think something happened and they were forced to not make it explicit..
Then they’d be better off coming right out and saying that. “We planned to take that relationship in one direction, but things arose, and that no longer became possible.” End comment.
There are also gentler ways they could have ended this season. There were some things in the last couple episodes that felt like very informed, and specific digs against certain ships and fan theories.
I honestly still think that this season was two grown men pulling a temper tantrum, like @madgirlspoem, mentioned to me last night, some people, especially very narcissistic ones, will prefer to burn their own creation to the ground rather than let other people play with it. It’s like the kid in kindergarten who when urged to share his toy, breaks it instead, so no one can have it.
This is the thought I keep circling around to. They decided to break it so we couldn’t keep it alive.
You know what I’m going to do about it? To paraphrase Maria Bamford, I’m going to keep the love I have alive…if for nothing else, then out of spite.
I have to say– when you’re talking about creators than “burn” their production rather than give up – I guess their feeling of agency over that production– you’re reminding me of Michael Landon– who, when he found out that Little House on The Prarie was being cancelled, literally blew up Walnut Grove to prevent a spinoff.
you know i really do believe that there’s going to be a 4th episode but i’m not that convinced about apple tree yard and there’s all this false info being spread and i can just see that we’re gonna do that thing again where things don’t exactly go as y’all planned and everyone’s just gonna abandon all logic and critical thinking 🙂
Considering there’s no ATY equivalent on the US Pbs website I would agree with you. But isn’t it exciting???
i wouldn’t call it exciting when i know that a shitton of my friends might get their hearts broken again. i, too, am hardcore tinhatting rn and i love it, but some people tend to have very specific expectations, and if not all of them are met they act like everything they’ve discovered up to that point is just false and useless.
