I finally completed Part 1 of data – comparing our favorites! Data used here was taken Feb 7, 2017. Please take a look at my TJLC Survey Assumptions post before considering this data!
For this section of data analysis, I compared Questions 10, 16, and 17. Here’s how those numbers panned out, in beautiful rainbow circles and bars:
BBC Sherlock is by far TJLC’s most favorite Holmes adaptation coming in at 79% of survey participants. Participant’s second-favorite was Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Holmes at 7%, and third is Jeremy Brett from the Granada Sherlock Holmes at 5%.
There were 13 responses in the area of “Well it used to be BBC Sherlock… then TFP happened”, and 6 that specified BBC Sherlock except without either TFP or the entirety of season 4.
TJLC’s most favorite part of BBC Sherlock is the characters, no surprise there, with almost half the votes. Next up is Ben and Martin’s acting at 18%, and third is the plot and story line (10%) with the writing (9%) close behind.
Three responses specifically mentioned the soundtrack.
Finally, TJLC’s favorite episode is The Sign of Three (20%), followed by The Reichenbach Fall (16%), and a fandom classic A Study in Pink (12%). The Six Thatchers came in last (even behind The Final Problem and The Blind Banker!) with a total of 3 votes. [Please note that I couldn’t get Excel to stop correcting “TEH” to “THE”, so yes, I know that all abbr. for The Empty Hearse are misspelled.]
Out of my own curiosity, I decided to compare these three questions to each other. I put the raw data for this in 2-way tables, which you can view here (x)(x)(x) – it’s fairly easy to understand how 2-way tables work, but you can always ask me, or Google it if you need some help interpreting them.
The following charts represent the proportions of each variable. To read them, compare the sizes of the colored sections to sections of the same color on other bars:
shit I totally forgot tags!!!!! lmk if you want to be removed or added to future updates!! you can also track the “TJLC survey” tag, which i will be tagging all updates with!
