I’m torn over this. Given the atrocities that Weinstein committed and how complicitous The Weinstein Company must be, it’s good that no money will go to them.

But Benedict and Michael Shannon’s work was highly praised, and the rest of the cast and crew will have their hard work (possibly) go unseen. Which is really sad.

Collateral damage is always ugly and never fair, but since they’re in initial stages of this horrendous situation, perhaps for the best. Now that Weinstein is removed, maybe down the line it’ll still be released under another studio and/or perhaps Sunnymarch will become more significantly involved. I’m no expert to be sure, but time away from TWC may not be a bad thing. Doesn’t have to automatically suggest straight to DVD. This may very well be a good time for companies to acquire projects, left out in the cold.

Honestly probably for the best. Better to be punished for doing the right thing than be successful for doing the wrong. Benedict is such a good and moral person that I’m sure he’d agree. And who knows, it may find a home elsewhere.

There really was no other way to handle this. As much as I was anticipating this film this was the best decision that was made. And I also feel as well that Benedict agreed with this decision.

Really enjoyed and appreciated the wise commentaries on this post, as above… and I agree, I kinda feel after Benedict spoke out for women and against Weinstein that he kind of sealed this outcome.

The vanity far article and others about this only said that it’s not on the list for potential Oscar nominations for this year. It didn’t say that the movie would /never/ be released either in theaters or straight to DVD. We still may see the movie, just not right now. (And it might be with a different company? But I’m not sure how that works when a film is already done?)

That being said I applaud the decision to start proactively pulling films and pulling actors, writers, etc from panels and stopping other PR things for the time being. (As it looks like other films on the docket are being changed or postponed).

With the statements the actors have made I have no doubt they aggred with this decision.
