Hey Mark Gatiss, there might be a point where you should start considering that maybe people complaining about Sherlock is less about wanting warm paste fed to them and more about voicing their confusion at you serving them edgy Deconstructed Warm Paste and saying it’s something else
Just because you think we should eat at your hipster buffet of edgy deepness doesn’t mean warm paste isn’t still warm paste even when you’re trying to disguise it as tapas served in mason jars
More fucky things…
Where was Ben’s 20 page monologue they were so excited for during comicon?
Where was the scene Martin was uncomfortable to film, and had to do it alone? (it wasn’t Mary’s death scene cause other actors were present)
Why was John typing into a jpg file about a baby that wasn’t born yet?
Why did Lady Smallwood’s name change from Elizabeth to Alicia?
Why in the hell did Mycroft let his sister who he KNOWS is a manipulative genius psychopath talk to another manipulative genius psychopath?
Why all the water imagery that was never followed up on?
Why the glowing, sometimes black, skull painting?
Why constantly build Mary up as a villain, then have a half-arsed redemption arch?
Why WHY do that Molly Hooper?
Why think a secret sibling would be ‘history making’ when it’s an over used, soap opera level trope?
Why would Amanda say an actor playing more than one character would be ‘ground breaking’ when orphan black, vampire dairies, Tyler Perry’s movies and soooo many others do the same thing?
WHY??
Something has to be up, this makes NO sense.
Edit: ALSO why this: “
Doesn’t matter who you really are” and “I know who you are” and “its about the legend and stories” When they’ve said OVER AND OVER it’s not a detective show, it’s a show about a detective???@abouthetwofthem added some great points, so I’ll add them here so we can see!
Also, WHY don’t we know anything about John’s letter, or Sherlock’s recurring dream yet?
WHY did they introduce Hopkins, if she only had a secondary role in the first episode?
WHY did they make a reference to Irene Adler in TLD?
WHY did they credit Henry Knight’s actor and Irene’s actress if the first didn’t appear at all and the second was just mentioned?
WHY did they spread fake rumors about Colin Morgan being in the show and fake pictures of “young Mycroft” ’s actor (don’t know if you remember this, he was thin and had big ears)?
WHY did they use Eurus’ metaphor of the “little girl on the plane” in such a twisted way? How could she be the little girl and herself at the same time?
And WHY “it’s all about the wallpaper”?
More from

So Moriarty didn’t start messing with Sherlock’s life until five years ago, at Eurus’ behest.
So who the hell killed Carl Powers?
And if it wasn’t Moriarty, how did he get hold of a pair of shoes that would have otherwise been thrown out twenty five years ago?
- What about the caves they built / filmed for setlock E3 that they were so proud of?
- What about the Mint and Mustard filming from E1?
- Why introduce Culverton at all if he’s not even going to be a threat for all three episodes, like CAM and Moriarty were?
- Why introduce and exposit the importance of a memory drug if they weren’t going to do anything with it?
- WHAT ABOUT JOHN BEING CHAINED IN THE WELL BUT CAN APPARENTLY CLIMB A ROPE?!
- John’s general OOC-ness the entire season.
- The ridiculous Hollywood-esque gunshot for Mary
- “Vatican Cameos” and Sherlock just ignores it?
- WHY EURUS IN THE FIRST PLACE WHEN THEY HAD ESTABLISHED MARY AS A VILLIAN IN S3?
- Why is Mycroft not wondering why the fuck there’s a clown in his house?
- Why is EVERYONE so OOC??
- Why the HELL does Mary get the last word in the entire thing?!?! That’s bullshit.
- How did everyone and everything survive the explosion??
My head hurts.
WTF IS WRONG WITH THE GLASS PANEL OF EURUS’ CELL??!!
also wtf is wrong with the whole episode
- Where is that scene in the disco hall?
- Why mention multiple times that marrying off watson to mary was acd’s biggest mistake and then give her such a huge part?
- Why does Sherrinford have secret doors like the HH Holmes Murder Hospital?
- Where is amanda’s scene with lady smallwood?
- Why did they film that car scene in the tunnel with Sherlock at the wheel when you can see in the bts that they filmed the car ride in a studio?
- What about the shark graffiti?
- What about Ben and Martin’s MI6 building scene?
- Why did we never even see the Ring of Mary’s past?
- Where is the cab scene they filmed next to North Gower street?
- Where is the 125 year old spoiler?
- Why add the line about loving acronyms?
- Why make Smallcroft a thing and not mentioning it again at all?
Oh, Also:
- Why “I will burn the heart out of you” and then make the entire series about Sherlock’s pining for John, when in the end it didn’t even fucking matter?
- And why all the repeating scenes and recycled music and lines from past episodes?
- And why the post-it note with “John’s alibi?” on it?
- Why characterise Mary as a villain since her introduction and link her to Moriarty if you’re just going to fuck over her character development?
- Why even develop the characters at all, in that case??
- Why stop the blog completely? Because they knew that the last episode was going to be a wash.
I’m just so confused.
- What was the point for Eurus to flirt with John and do nothing with it ever again?
- Why did she shot him with a tranquillizer just to let him go instantly?
- How the hell Sherlock thought building up a scenery and hiring actors was more effective than just say “I know I have a secret sister because she shot John, now explain”?
- How did Eurus know about Sherlock’s dreams?
- How can Mary send dvds from the grave so Sherlock and John receive them at very convenient moment?
- Why were the dvds titled “Miss me” and “Miss you”, which is Moriarty’s and Eurus’ brand?
- How the fuck Eurus could move three unconscious men from an isolated island to their old family mall – two places obviously not geographically close one from the other? And then place each of them in separate places?
- How did she chained John? Did she carried unconscious John down the well and chained him herself? And if so, why isn’t she wet?
- How can Sherlock forgive her so easily for the murder of his childhood friend and for having traumatized him? Just because she needed a hug? wtf?
- How does Greg could find Mycroft? Eurus is so clever and angry about Mycroft because he’s the one who locked her up, but she didn’t thought of making him unfindable?
- Why is Molly crying and pissed before she answer Sherlock’s phonecall? What did he do to her to make her so sad and angry?
- And why all of this don’t matter as soon as she hanged up the phone?
- How can she hear Sherlock force her to reveal her secret and tell her that he doesn’t love her, and then come back with a bright smile because hey, being treated like shit isn’t such a big deal in the end? Does she have zero self-esteem?
- And that after the promo pics and the cast hinted at the fact she’ll grow up as a character and be more strong?
- Where the fuck was Rosie this whole time?
- How does Mrs Hudson survived the explosion? How the fuck isn’t she at least injured? For a reminder: the explosion in TGG, in the old lady’s apartment, blew up several floors.
- Do all the cast and crew don’t know how an explosion actually works?
Overall: WHY. HOW. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.
@thecutteralicia had a brillant go at answering some of these here. I’m going to dive in as well and help out in the effort. It’s hard seeing folks so confused.
Why constantly build Mary up as a villain, then have a half-arsed redemption arch?
This is important: please, please don’t start demanding that writers create characters that exist in an exclusively binary universe, that would be so boring.
This series is all about failing to live up to expectations; Sherlock fails to live up to John’s. John fails to live up to Sherlock and Mary’s elevated opinion of him. Mary fails to live up the lie she sold to John, and to our judgment of her.
Why can’t Mary try really hard to be the woman John Watson wanted her to be, but fail and fail, but occasionally succeed? Why can’t we have that kind of ambiguity?
I like that they build up Mary as a villain and then complicated it, personally. Sherlock saw the whole story in S3 and decided that she could be trusted, even after she’d just shot him. That seemed like a set up to me. I didn’t trust her at all. As it turns out, neither did John. I like that they put John and us in the same place, and then forced us to question our judgment.
Why would Amanda say an actor playing more than one character would be ‘ground breaking’ when orphan black, vampire dairies, Tyler Perry’s movies and soooo many others do the same thing?
Is it the same thing, though? In Orphan Black it’s important that you know it’s the same actor, that’s the point. You’re supposed to know they’re clones. If you fail to notice that it’s the same actor in The Vampire Diaries, you’re going to miss a piece of the story. They had Sian Brooke play three different women and we weren’t supposed to notice. And I don’t think anyone did! And then she plays a fourth! That’s fairly novel.
ALSO why this: “ Doesn’t matter who you really are” and “I know who you are” and “its about the legend and stories” When they’ve said OVER AND OVER it’s not a detective show, it’s a show about a detective???
This is a theme. Sherlock says, “I’m not a hero” in series 1. He puts on the hat and “becomes” Sherlock Holmes, which suggests that he’s not Sherlock Holmes the myth without it, doesn’t it? That it’s an identity that he puts on? In TAB, John acknowledges that the Sherlock Holmes of his stories is not the real him, it’s a construction, it’s a myth of a hero that he can’t possibly embody in real life. John feels pressure to be this perfect moral man that he knows he’s not. Mary says: it’s about the legend and the stories, that’s what drives the two of them, being those people. And it doesn’t matter that they fail to live up to them all the time. They are human on the inside, and that shouldn’t hold them back from being superhuman on the outside.
WHY did they make a reference to Irene Adler in TLD?
I would say that Irene Adler is the representation of Sherlock’s sexuality. Her introduction to his life was very illuminating and frightening for him, not, I’d say, because he’s attracted to her, but because she is very much like him, and she deduces so much about his sexuality when he doesn’t want to acknowledge it. Every time Irene comes up, Sherlock has to talk about or confront his sexuality. That’s been going on since S2. It forced John to tell Sherlock to go after her, and let us see Sherlock start to tell John that he’s the one who makes him better, not Irene.
I love it when Irene comes up.
WHY did they use Eurus’ metaphor of the “little girl on the plane” in such a twisted way? How could she be the little girl and herself at the same time?
How could Sherlock be young!Sherlock and current!Sherlock after shooting Magnussen at the same time? How could he be getting shot by Mary and in a shiny morgue talking to Molly at the same time? How could Sherlock be in a debate chamber talking to suspects and on the internet in 221b at the same time? Why so literal?
And WHY “it’s all about the wallpaper”?
Wasn’t that Arwel Wyn Jones? He’s the guy who picks the wallpaper, I’m sure it is all about the wallpaper for him. It’s nice wallpaper. Very thoughtfully chosen.
Who built the fake 4 walls?
Gareth down in the village. He was confused by the order, but he doesn’t argue with the money.
Who bought and painted the dog bowl?
Eurus can get out of Sherrinford any time she likes, dress herself up as various people, break into people’s houses, and you want to know how she got and painted a dog bowl? She picked it up at Argos and got some paint from Cass Art.
When Moriarty meets Eurus, what does she say? She tells him she’s noticed his interest in Sherlock. What does that mean? Eurus doesn’t create Moriarty’s interest in Sherlock, she only stokes it and uses him. It’s not clear exactly when she reaches out to him. Possibly it’s after the Carl Powers case, after Sherlock and Moriarty have already met. Or just before. Not clear. But she noticed his interest first.
Why introduce Culverton at all if he’s not even going to be a threat for all three episodes, like CAM and Moriarty were?
Why introduce Jefferson Hope if he’s not even going to be a threat for all three episodes? Why introduce Bob Frankland if it’s not even going to be a threat for all three episodes? Why introduce the Mayfly Man if it’s not even going to be a threat for all three episodes?
Why introduce and exposit the importance of a memory drug if they weren’t going to do anything with it?
How do you figure they didn’t do anything with it? If the people hearing Culverton’s confession hadn’t taken the memory drug, we wouldn’t have the forgotten slip of paper as evidence that Sherlock can use. The evidence is created, and then forgotten. The fact that Faith knew the secret, created evidence, and then forgot it is what allows Eurus to take on her identity. The did that with it.
“Vatican Cameos” and Sherlock just ignores it?
Why is this weird? Vatican Cameos means danger, basically. It means watch yourself, things are going badly wrong. Sherlock wants to talk to his sister, and John wants him to back off. He doesn’t want to back off. It’s a code, not an off switch.
WHY EURUS IN THE FIRST PLACE WHEN THEY HAD ESTABLISHED MARY AS A VILLIAN IN S3?
This is a weird complaint. No series has only one villain. Mary is a red herring villain. Eurus is part of a different storyline. Mary could not have helped us tell the story of how Sherlock came to be who and what he is. Unless you wanted Mary to be Sherlock’s secret sister?
Why is Mycroft not wondering why the fuck there’s a clown in his house?
If you don’t think Mycroft is wondering this, what could they possibly have done to convince you? Do you think he’s too blasé about it? Did he ignore the clown? Did you want him to shout out, “WHY THE FUCK IS THERE A CLOWN IN MY HOUSE?” That’s a bit on the nose. You’re meant to read the facial expressions for that kind of thing, mostly.
WTF IS WRONG WITH THE GLASS PANEL OF EURUS’ CELL??!!
It’s…not…there?
Why is Molly crying and pissed before she answer Sherlock’s phonecall? What did he do to her to make her so sad and angry?
This is interesting. We don’t know why Molly is crying before she picks up the phone. Someone should write an answer for this. She has a life of her own, so it could have been anything. Her mother might have died. She might have had a tough day at work, who knows. Why do you think it was Sherlock who made her sad or angry? There’s more to her life than him, they’ve made that quite clear.
How can she hear Sherlock force her to reveal her secret and tell her that he doesn’t love her, and then come back with a bright smile because hey, being treated like shit isn’t such a big deal in the end? Does she have zero self-esteem?
And that after the promo pics and the cast hinted at the fact she’ll grow up as a character and be more strong? She went through something difficult with Sherlock and was able to deal with it, and you don’t think she’s strong? We don’t know how much time passed between the phone call and Molly visiting the flat. But we know a whole lot of things happened in between. They entirely rebuilt the flat, including refurnishing it and moving back in. That’s at least a few weeks, probably a few months. I’m sure they both had time to process it and talk about it and get to a better place about it. Sherlock is certainly better equipped to have an emotional conversation by that point in the story.
People do forgive each other at times. It’s good of Molly to have forgiven Sherlock.
Where the fuck was Rosie this whole time?
With a…sitter? Of some variety?
How does Mrs Hudson survived the explosion? How the fuck isn’t she at least injured? For a reminder: the explosion in TGG, in the old lady’s apartment, blew up several floors.
Not all explosions are the same. Mycroft explains the potential intensity of this one in the episode. He said it wouldn’t break down the walls, so the neighbours on either side would be safe. Mrs Hudson was in some danger when she was in the kitchen, because he wasn’t so sure about the floor, since the grenade was sitting on the floor. If you watched the episode, you’ll know that they waited until she had moved to the back of her flat so she’d be safer. When John and Sherlock come back to the flat, they walk on the floor picking up debris, so the floor doesn’t seem to have been destroyed.
That is how Mrs Hudson survived the explosion.
Hope this helps!
Hi, this is Molly at the dead centre of town. Leave a message.
I agree, John, I agree.
What’s the worst thing you can do, to your very best friends? Tell them your darkest secret. Because if you tell them and they decide they’d rather not know, you can’t take it back, you can’t unsay it. Once you open your heart, you can’t close it again
anD ANOTHER THING
what was the point of all of the references to fairytales if there was never going to be a fairytale ending
I THINK ABOUT THIS ALL THE TIME. The dragon won.
They never explained why Euros chose to broadcast Moriarty’s Miss Me? shit after Sherlock shot CAM, and then why she sat on her ass doing nothing during however long T6T took, then why she bothered with any of that Culverton shit
They never explained why the Charlie kid just haaappened to die at a place with a Thatcher bust connected to other Thatcher busts linked to Mary’s past
If we’re supposed to believe a full year passed between the Miss Me broadcast and the end of TLD (Sherlock’s birthday), what the fuck was Euros doing that whole time? Buying wigs and contact lenses?
Literally Euros has been capable of enslaving people with her X-Men powers since she was five and she just sat on that ability for decades even though she had some weird vendetta against Sherlock that made her want to set up this crazy Saw scenario?
Why NOW?
If she could actually enslave people just by talking to them wouldn’t her ‘play with me Sherlock’ have worked in childhood?
Riiiight? Couldn’t she have just persuaded Sherlock that playing with her was in his best interests or whatever kind of shit she said on those tapes John and Mycroft watched?
Instead she was like nah I’m just going to murder my brothers friend and get myself locked up forever??? Like John’s right you don’t lock up a child if a dog goes missing but if another child goes missing… YOU DO SOMETHING. YOU DON’T JUST WAIT FOR THE HOUSE TO BURN DOWN…. what….
RIGHT? Like… Sherlock and Mycroft remembered Euros singing clues to where “Redbeard” was, which means she was singing clues to where Victor, a missing CHILD was. Pretty sure you could go somewhere with that.
What the fuck did Victor’s parents think about that? Wouldn’t they raise hell? WOULDN’T SOMEONE CHECK THE WELL?
How is this real?? either this isn’t real or they literally wrote an episode so bad it’s hard to believe it’s real and idek
And we literally have to believe that this crazy shit happens in the family of geniuses where a child can deduce that carl powers was actually killed (and remember, Sherlock is the slowest of them all) BUT SOMEHOW NOBODY HAS A CLUE WHERE TO LOOK FOR A MISSING KID EVEN WHEN EUROS EXPLICITLY NAMES HIM “DROWNED REDBEARD”
Literally like… imagine sitting at the table for a meal in that family:
Sherlock: “Where is Redbeard?! 😢”
Euros: “The clue is in the song!”
Sherlock: “I can’t find him!”
Euros: “No one cares about drowned Redbeard anyway.”
Sherlock, Mycroft, Mummy: “It’s a total mystery where this missing boy could be 😔”
Daddy: *pours them water from a pitcher full of bones*
hey @ mofftiss nice try but am i really supposed to believe for one single second that you sat on a train to cardiff years ago and were like “you know what let’s do, let’s give sherlock a secret sister who has spent decades wanting to kill him because he wouldn’t let her play with him and his friend” and then spent almost a decade trying to tell that story alkdsfjddlsajf

It’s like finding out in Spectre that James Bond’s psychopathic foster-brother is the man behind the curtain…because he was jealous.
Except Spectre actually had decent action sequences and explosions.
^^ Very true.
